If you or your kids have a bike, keep cycling safe with a free 15 minute bike check & tune up.

Visit the Northside Produce Market and find the bike mechanics stand. Put your name on the sign-in board, then go enjoy the market, have coffee and some breakfast. It may take an hour for your bike to be seen. 

You’ll get safety checks and a tuned-up bike. You will be advised if something need proper repair. Limit of one bike per person.

An authentic Aboriginal experience is on offer at Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney. 

Bush food lunch or morning or afternoon teas offer a new culinary experience for the curious. 

You get to walk through the gardens to identify and learn the new foods you may not have noticed there before. Then the pleasure of relaxing at Victoria Lodge while they are prepared and presented for a relaxed meal of morning/afternoon tea.

A ten-minute walk will get you to this fresh produce market which has been held twice a month for 21 years. Forty-two producers and growers offer their goods.

Head to Civic Park for good coffee and breakfast. Explore the stalls to discover fresh produce: cheeses, organic kombucha, fruit & veggies, herbs, baked breads, gluten-free goods, bagels, condiments, meats, honey, flowers and more. 

Covid measures are in place. You can also order at the virtual market for home delivery, or pay & collect on the next market day.

Sunset Sessions Pop-Up Bar

Enjoy a Sunday afternoon at Sydney’s largest rooftop garden with stunning views, and a waterside pop-up bar. There is locally brewed beer, organic wines and a guest gin at every session. Food options also available and live acoustic music.

There is plenty of room for social distancing and BYO picnics are welcomed. Please avoid single-use plastics as this is a sustainability centre. Kid friendly. Dog friendly. Live music. Free event. No booking needed.

Twilight Food Fair

Unwind on summery Friday night with a meal at Civic Park. Choose dinner, dessert and beverages from a range of food stalls. There are options for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian. 

This is usually a type of park picnic but at least initially it will operate as a takeaway event to protect stall holders and community.  Come any enjoy a sumptuous choice and we hope to get back to this alfresco dining mode soon.

Wendy’s Secret Garden

Find tranquility close by in Wendy’s Garden. Formerly a wild bushy wasteland, this garden is a peaceful haven in Lavender Bay. Winding paths with seats invite you to pause and enjoy the water views. It is wonderful for a shady summer picnic 

It hugs the curve of Lavender Bay with views across Sydney harbour and the Harbour Bridge. At the bottom the boardwalk will take you towards Luna Park. Note the paths do not have lighting for nighttime.

Instead of dpwnloading - head out for a movie. The popular art deco Hayden Orpheum has reopened. 

Audience capacity is capped as patrons are urged to sit apart from other groups. Online booking is recommended, and it’s contactless payments only for tickets or at the snack bar.

Kirribilli Runners Club

This running group formed in 2006 and gather twice a week at the Kirribilli steps to the bridge for 10 and 6.25 km runs. Always the scenic route.  

The club is about free, non-competitive social running They welcome beginners to advanced runners and sometimes have a beer at the pub afterwards. Their site has more info. 

Climbfit St Leonards

Different strength building 

A different workout no matter the weather. Climbfit St Leonards is unique - an indoor climbing centre fully equiped with a gym for overall fitness. It has 160 climbing routes, 90 bouldering problems, auto-belays, chimney climbs, overhangs and other challenges. 

Hire equipment and ask an Instructor for tips to get going. Covid means climb sessions must be booked online. There are social climbs and kids aged 4+ can tackle the Kids Wall.

Coal Loader & Berry Reserve

The Coal Loader is a sustainability centre with community gardens and plenty of history. Public spaces and the reserve are open. 

Berry Reserve is one of the last untouched bush headlands in Sydney. Walk the bush tracks to find beautiful harbour views across to the Harbour.

Sub Base Platypus

A new waterfront park 

HMAS Platypus was an Australian Navy Submarine base. The naval and industrial origins still show through its transformation into a waterside public park by the Harbour Trust.

Keeping its heritage, it is now a recreation spot with harbourside views. Kids have a maritime themed playground and shaded bbq facilities for groups. 

Located at 120 High St, North Sydney. You can enter from High St, or from Kesterton Park in Kirribilli. Open 7 am - 9 pm.

Observatory Hill Park

Panoramic views of the Harbour

Observatory Hill is a grassy hill with sweeping views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and harbour views to the west. Perfect for a picnic or relax and enjoy a pleasant view on a summery day.

This was one of Sydney’s earliest parks and being a hill catches the breeze in summer. A rotunda and trees provide protective shade. Walk across the bridge, or drive and park in a local street.

The Powerhouse Museum was the original 1899 electricity generating station powering Sydney’s tram network. Now it is contemporary museum for excellence and innovation in applied arts and sciences.

Student Mondays (6 am - 10 pm) offers all day entry to climb plus free harness (or shoe hire) for just $12. This is for tertiary students so bring your Uni or TAFE ID.
